Physical Therapy for Posture, Balance, & Gait

Posture, balance, and gait, of course, are not static; they’re dynamic. You have sitting, standing, lying down, and all forms of posture in between. Over time, poor posture can lead to gait and balance problems and back pain. We generally recognize poor posture, balance, and gait when we see it, but those who appear to have ideal body mechanics may achieve this with inappropriate muscular activity. The conventional definition of proper gait, balance, and good posture is the correct alignment of body parts supported by the right amount of muscle tension. A poorly aligned body uses inappropriate muscle activity to function resulting in mechanically inefficient movement of the joints.
