Dry Needling Therapy

dry needling treatment

Dry needling, also known as Trigger Point Dry Needling, is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, and even pain and injury prevention, with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits. It is effective in relieving muscle tightness, soreness, and trigger points associated with many musculoskeletal conditions. Dry needling can also be effective at decreasing spinal compression associated with pinched nerves or herniated discs, muscular and connective tissue neuromusculoskeletal pain, and movement impairments.

How Does Dry Needling Work?

When performing dry needling, a trained physical therapist inserts a thin filiform needle through the skin into areas of the muscle known as “trigger points” to assist with reducing pain and restoring function.

Dry needling is one component of physical therapy used in conjunction with other manual therapy techniques and therapeutic exercises. At Bull Dawg, a physical therapist will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms before designing a treatment plan, which may or may not include dry needling. You can ask your physical therapist if he or she believes dry needling will be helpful in your treatment.

  • Tammy has been of immeasurable help to me, vastly improving my gait and mobility, enabling me to live better. I greatly appreciate her amazing ability to diagnose and bring about positive results on a vast array of body issues, including my very complex ones. I’m also impressed with the multiple techniques or modalities in her professional background and training that she regularly employs, gearing them to each individual’s needs. For instance, I recently greatly benefited from functional dry needling, which awakened long dormant muscles in my lower extremities and has greatly enhanced the range of motion and flexibility in my stride.
